Engagement Series, Part 1: Picking a style
The art of choice.
When you start the hunt for an engagement ring, it's normal to go through something similar to the five stages of grief.
First you're excited. "This is happening! I'm going to do this!"
Second there's fear. "Holy mother of God, this is happening!?".
Third, resolution. "Okay, I'm doing this."
Fourth, overwhelmed. "How are there so many choices!? I'm going to make all the wrong choices."
And finally, acceptance. "I made the right choice."
This post is for people experiencing the first through fourth stages and we are here to usher you peacefully to the fifth stage. We think it's helpful to think about your girl and her style, activity type, and the archetype she most relates to. So let's break it down!
Traditional, elegant, timeless.
When we think about this girl, our minds go to the eternal icon Audrey Hepburn. She knows what she likes and she is classy with a capital C. Pearls and high quality stones are her bag. The Audrey we know wants a Solitaire setting. This style showcases the center stone with no distractions. Trends come and go, but a solitaire is always beautiful.
Classic beauty, lets center stone sing.
FUN, radiant, one of a kind.
Dolly, Dolly, Dolly. You remind us that we're never alone, you're the life of the party, and you live your life on your own terms. She's never one to back down from something that matters to her and she is FABULOUS. When we think about all of the "Dolly's" of the world, we immediately matched her with a halo setting. This ring is extra sparkly for an extra sparkly person--the circle of diamonds around the central stone adds more visual impact.
Yo dog, I heard you like diamonds so I put diamonds on your diamonds.
All natural babe, independent, organic.
Did Stevie Nicks invent Boho? We're not sure, but it sure feels like it. When we think about Stevie, we think organic lines, petal shapes, and less refined finishes. Rustic, attracted to natural beauty and forms, and probably loves the look of cloudy and colored diamonds. For this girl, we recommend bohemian rings.
Flower child, organic shapes and lines, less "shiny."
The artist. Soulful, poetic, and creative.
When we think about Patti Smith and women with souls like her, we gravitate towards styles that are a little quieter, maybe with a moody diamond and some unusual gold tones. She doesn't want a flashy ring, she wants something where the details are everything and the surprises are only for her and her special people.
New heirlooms, special details, unusual stones.
We hope this helps and of course we're here for non-licensed psychological evaluations of the love of your life to help you make the right choice. We also specialize in custom engagement rings so if you feel like she doesn't quite fit into any of those categories, we would love to interpret your vision. Until next time! xoxo
